About this Project- Digitized Local History Books
LSTA Grant Project
The VCPL received an LSTA grant in 2002 to digitize select local history pamphlets and books from the Special Collections Department & the Community Archives. This project is supported by the Institute of Museums and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered by the Indiana State Library. The ultimate goal of the project is to improve access to unique local print resources at the Vigo County Public Library.
Archives Research Visits
To visit the Archives, please make an appointment with Jim Gilson, Archivist/Digitization Librarian at 812-232-1113, ext. 216 or send an email using the link above. The Community Archives is accessible to researchers Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Special arrangements can be made in advance for weekend or evening appointments.
Digitization Information
Materials were digitized by Northern Micrographics of La Crosse, Wisconsin. Pages were initially captured as bi-tone TIFF G4 images (600 dpi) for text or Grayscale JPEG Quality Level 50 images (300 dpi) for photographs and graphics. The resultant images were converted to multi-page PDF Image Only files (100 dpi) to be viewed with Adobe Acrobat.
